Shamima Omwayi is a vibrant young Kenyan woman with a strong passion in the humanitarian affairs, notably in the areas of community development, human rights, and peace and sustainability. She has enriched her knowledge of improving human life as an undergrad, hence holds a Bachelor’s of Commerce Degree in Finance, and a Diploma in Accountancy from Technical University of Kenya.
Shamima helped revive a community-based charitable organization, Villa Teag Children’s Home, where she has been volunteering at for close to seven years providing administrative support, and has in overall contributed immensely to the welfare of the homeless children.
She co-founded The Youth Network, a CBO youth group that promotes youth empowerment, peace and security, conflict management and economic empowerment in her community.
Previously, Shamima has volunteered as a facilitator for several organizations, including Global Communities in partnership with USAID; Hope World Wide and Plan International, where she facilitated in areas of women and youth empowerment, peace and security under Kenya Tuna Uwezo program-countering violent extremism, youths and governance, among others. She is privileged to be awarded as a champion of peace by Global Communities & USAID, having been recognized for her outstanding contribution to peace and reconciliation in Nairobi City.
By actively engaging in community work, she has developed skills in community organization and action, planning and implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and humanitarian communication. She would wish to network on social entrepreneurship and also focus on the role of women in peace building efforts-prevention and resolution of conflicts.
When she’s not ironing out community issues, she’s expanding her knowledge on various subjects, and during her free time she’s engaging her social media followers on current affairs. She’s currently working on a project proposal for Community Eco Library
