Nuria Abdullahi Abdi holds an MA in Development and Peacebuilding from Eastern Mennonite University, Virginia, USA. Currently she is the Vice chair of the National Committee on the Implementation of Citizen Participation in Security, in Kenya. She is one of the founder members of Wajir Peace and Development Committee, a successful community peacebuilding initiate which is a role model grassroots peace structure that works and builds relationships both vertically and horizontally amongst all stakeholders. The model is used internationally as best practice in Strategic Peacebuilding model. She has been involved in community level mediation process in the Northern Region of Kenya, and an expert in conflict early warning.

Ms Abdi is passionate in enhancing women’s role in peace and security and was involved in advocating for the recognition of women’s role in peacebuilding. She was among a group of international women who lobbied in international forums including meeting with policy makers in Brussels for security sector reforms from a gender perspective. She participated in Hague Appeal for Peace, lobbing for women involvement in security and peace campaign under the theme: “from the village council to the negotiation table, women in peacebuilding” in 1999 at The Hague which culminated in the adoption of the UN Resolution 1325 in 2000. She is a consultant in the field of Peace and Development and has worked in National and International organizations to contribute and advance the agenda of peace and security, with special focus on promoting women’s participation in decision making.
