Founding member and president of the Coalition des Femmes Leaders NSC for the participation of women in the Mali peacebuilding process. Fatima Maiga is a recognized mediator for sustainable peace, and a successful policy reformer in the field of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE). Ms. Maiga has dedicated 18 years of her professional life to developing, researching and evaluating programs promoting women and young people’s participation and leadership, both in conflict and peace settings. She is currently investing her expertise and networks in shaping an inclusive peace agenda in Mali, where she regularly interfaces with and influences decisionmakers within the armed groups signatories to the Peace agreement, government, political parties and confessional organizations. She previously served as Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Reconciliation and the Ministry of Women in Mali. Prior to working for the Government of Mali, she had served as Country Director of UNWOMEN in Cote d’Ivoire during the 2010-2011 electoral crisis, and as Regional Technical Specialist on HIV and Young People at UNFPA’s Regional office for Western and Central Africa. Ms Maiga has lived and worked in several countries in Africa, Europe, and North America, and is fluent in French, English, Spanish, and Bambara.
She holds a Master’s degree in Foreign languages and economics from the University of Paris Sorbonne and a Master’s in International Relations from Columbia University. Her publications include “Turning Remote Dreams into Possibilities: Strategies for Building a Better Future for Rural Girls in Francophone Africa” (UNFPA, 2005).
est une spécialiste du renforcement des capacités des jeunes et des femmes qui a puisé le sens de son combat pour la démocratie et les droits humains dans les mouvements citoyens qui ont mis fin à la dictature militaire et contribué à la transition démocratique du Mali en 1991. Elle s’investit depuis à la promotion des droits des femmes africaines- notamment à l’intégrité corporelle, participation aux sphères décisionnelles, éducation et autonomisation économique- aux niveaux communautaire, national, régional et international.
Après avoir occupé le poste de Directrice de ONUFemmes en Cote d’Ivoire durant la grave crise postélectorale de 2010, Mme Maiga a décidé de revenir au Mali afin de mettre son expérience en matière de gestion inclusive des crises au profit de son pays.
Chef de cabinet au Ministère de la Réconciliation Nationale (Octobre 2013 à février 2014) puis au Ministère de la Promotion de la Femme, de l’Enfant et de la Famille (de février 2014 à septembre 2015) , elle gère aujourd’hui le Cabinet ESEN spécialisé sur les questions de genre et d’énergie renouvelables. Fatima est l’initiatrice et présidente de la Coalition des Femmes Leaders du Nord, Sud et Centre du Mali qui vise notamment à promouvoir la participation et le leadership des femmes dans les processus de consolidation de la paix et du développement durable au Mali.
